Urbanist Photographer in Los Angeles

Learn more about me, Catarina Carlyle—an urban photographer capturing life in motion. Read my story, artist statement and past exhibits.

Hi, I’m Catarina Carlyle—a West Los Angeles-based photographer with a deep love for cities and the stories they hold. I studied visual culture and urban design before picking up a camera seriously, and I’ve been exploring the relationship between people and place ever since. My work focuses on the in-between: the overlooked details, fleeting light, and unscripted beauty of daily city life.

When I’m not shooting, you’ll likely find me walking alleys, chasing reflections, or sipping coffee at the edge of a sidewalk scene – always observing, always framing.

Artist Statement

Urban photography grounds me.

Cities are living, breathing structures—layered with movement, memory, and geometry. I’m fascinated by how light travels through space, how strangers become part of a larger rhythm, and how even stillness feels alive in an urban setting.

With my camera, I try to capture not just what a place looks like—but what it feels like to stand there, in that moment, with all its tension, stillness, or motion.
